Why Dance?
As important as language or art is to communication and expression, dance is just as important. Dance is an expression of both the mind and the body; of both language and art. It is an expression of self in that it is to communicate to the world a unique message from within your self without words. It is a sacred communion with your partner that allows you to communicate from soul to soul without the clutter of words. Dance is a way for two people to uplift each other without ego, without selfish pride, and without greed or envy. It is a way for two people to truly enjoy each other in a pure and mutual respect and share in a truly unique experience. Each dance is a story, a journey, that begins when the couple joins... it unfolds with the song on an unknown path that will never be traveled again... and each new dance is an entirely new adventure.
“Not only did drama as such – the art of which action is a pivotal material – arise out of primitive dance... Music, too, which can hardly be dissociated from the theatre's beginnings, traces its ancestry to the sounds made to accentuate the primitive dance rhythm, the stamping of feet and clapping of hands, the shaking of rattles, the beating of drums and sticks. Dance, then, is the great mother of the arts.” — Sheldon Cheney, Art Historian (1886-1980) |
